Our client based in central Glasgow are seeking a SAN/Unix Specialist to come on board for a 3 month duration (will be a rolling contract likely to go circa 6 to 9 months in duration) to start on the 18/08/08.
The role will be split into 2 tasks focusing on SAN and Unix.
Storage Area Network (SAN) work – this is the most important part and will take up around 40% of the total time.
Our client have purchased a primary SAN from EMC and are now about to embark on the design and development required to get this SAN into the live environment. the successful candidate will be required to work closely with a permanent member of staff to look at the design proposals from the technical architects and technically challenge the designs and provide input to the final agreed solution.
Once this and the subsequent secondary SAN goes forward you will then need to help in the configuration, set up and installation of the SAN.
For the SAN part of the role you will have good working knowledge of SAN Implementations and producing design specifications and staying involved through the implementation phases.
The UNIX Operational Support Tasks – could be up to 60% of the role
You will have good working knowledge of UNIX as they are going to have to get involved in ongoing operational duties to ensure the correct level of support and enhancement work is given to the UNIX environment. They are a mixed environment – SUN Solaris and HP_UX. This will be more of a business as usual day to day role which will be carried out in conjunction with the SAN project based tasks.
